Virginia Luque classical guitarist

“Virginia Luque...played a concert... that was stunning both for its technical fireworks and its musical warmth."

— The New York Times

“...Enormous facility...”

— Washington Post

“...Tremendous virtuosity...She knew no fear...Luque dazzled her audience...breathtaking...”

— St. Louis Post-Dispatch

“I’m enjoying Luque’s nearly two-hour set—the first in her Gold Catalogue Composers series released on her own Iberia Productions label—so much. It features strong performances of some of Brouwer’s best-known works from the 1950s (Fuga No. 1, Danza Caracteristica, Dos Temas Populares Cubanos), the ’60s (Un Dia de Noviembre and Elogio de la Danza), then jumps to the early ’80s for the brilliant El Decameron Negro suite (written for Sharon Isbin); then the balance of the pieces here are plucked from the ’90s and 2000s—all the way up to the album-opening masterpiece, Danza de Medianoche (Dance of Midnight), a nearly seven-minute world premiere commissioned by and dedicated to Luque, which has instantly become one of my favorite of his recent works.”

— Blair Jackson, Classical Guitar Magazine

“...Virginia Luque...wove a magical spell over a near-capacity audience... The epitome of a Spanish señorita...”

— The Brunswick News

“I just returned from a fabulous concert by the young Spanish guitarist Virginia Luque. I was amazed. Not only does she possess the most speed and facility I've ever seen, her dynamic and tonal shading was a revelation.”

— Dr. James Greeson, University of Arkansas

“You have a beauty of sound, touch, virtuosism, and besides music: phrasing and breaths. There’s an amount of things that I constantly have to teach throughout the world and you have it. I very much admire that and I respect it.”

— Leo Brouwer

“...among the best guitarists I've ever seen...”

— Jorge Morel

“I heard all the tracks the best I could. Everything is fine, the sound is good, your playing is solid and the phrasing even better. I believe it’s going to be a great success, it needs to be sent to radio stations, I will take care of some of them. I congratulate you and I thank you for your effort with all this project. A great accomplishment. A big hug.”

Jorge Morel’s review about Estampas Latinas CD:

“Virginia Luque is one of the great players of the young generation after Bream and Williams."

— Hermann Hauser III
